On February 23, 2022, at around 8:30 p.m., 34-year-old Grace Allison Smith borrowed $20 for gas, got into her car, and left her mother’s home in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia. It was the last time anyone would see her. When her mother tried to contact her a few hours later, at around 11:30 p.m., there was no answer. Despite attempting to reach her many times during the course of the next 24 hours, her mother failed to get an answer to her calls or texts.

According to NamUs, Grace’s 2006 Gold Pontiac Grand Prix was located in the McClintic Wildlife area, near her estranged husband's home and less than 10 miles from her mother’s house, on February 25, 2022. It was only then that her family realized she was missing and filed a police report.

According to a Facebook page set up to help find Grace, her personal effects and keys had been left on the hood of her vehicle, but not her cell phone. Groceries in her car had been left to decay. It is unclear how much forensic evidence could be gathered from the car as it was gone through by individuals who located it and moved it to her mother-in-law’s property before police were able to examine it. The call log for her phone shows that no calls were answered or made from it after leaving her mother’s home.

The Aware Foundation of Virginia site lists Grace as a white female who stands 5 feet 4 inches tall. She is of slight build, around 90 pounds, with blues eyes and gray/silver bleached hair. Her hair is naturally brown, but she often changes her hair color, sometimes to a vivid red. She has a ferry tattooed on her lower back. She was last seen wearing a blue coat, yellow hoodie, blue jeans, and black Ugg boots.

Searches in the area where she went missing have been unproductive, but local police and family members continue to look for Grace. Her family is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads them to her whereabouts.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Grace Smith is asked to contact the Mason County Sheriff’s Office at 304-675-3828 or call 911.
