Cities Across the U.S. Offering Huge Incentives to Remote Workers

There has never been a better time to become a digital nomad. Many businesses are catching up to what those of us who have been working online for some time already knew. They are learning that they really don’t have to have everyone come into an office. They can have meetings on Zoom. People can do their work at home just as effectively.

The world has changed.

What does this mean for those of us who do our work from our sofas, home offices, or co-op spaces? It means that we are in high demand — but that is not all it means.

There are now people who will pay you to move to their towns and work remotely.

Certain cities in the United States are offering payments for remote workers to relocate to areas they would not normally consider when seeking a place to live.

It is quite simple. Most of the places looking for new residents don’t have a lot of work opportunities in their area. They are looking for people who will boost their economy by shopping, buying homes, or renting from other residents, and paying local taxes without taking what few existing jobs they can offer from the people who work traditional jobs in the area.

In addition to cash incentives, some of the locations are offering other incentives like free recreational activities, parties where you are the guest of honor to help you make friends, co-working space, tax breaks, and a lot more. Some of the opportunities have stricter requirements for the type of person they are seeking or the minimum you must make. Some offer money upfront and others only after you have met some of the obligations.

Basically, there is a lot out there for your consideration and more to come as additional cities pick up on this trick for bringing in new revenue. Luring remote workers into their fold with prizes is the new thing and you can get in on it while it lasts!

For example, a new program in Lewisburg, West Virginia is currently offering $20,000 in cash and incentives. That is $12,000 cash and the rest is free outdoor recreation and gifts. They offer sunsets and vistas in a rural setting with a low cost of living. If you like the country, this might be the place for you.

The program is still fairly new, having started during the pandemic as more people began to work from home. Many of the initial slots have already been filled, but people come and go, so you never know when you might find your dream location posting new offers. Of course, there are also a number of places still looking and more are being added for 2022. Some of the locations have as many as 1,000 slots open for remote workers.

So, if you are not ready to leap now, you have time to do some research into the offers that interest you, as well as those presented by other locations within the United States. All you have to do is read the criteria for the location and apply if you're interested. If you are selected, pack your bags and your laptop. You're on your way to a new home with some killer incentives and perhaps, some cold, hard cash.

Perhaps a bit of help with relocating somewhere you would not have normally considered is all you need or want. Some of the programs even have offers for families or people who do want to work in that area rather than remotely, though remote workers are the primary target residents for most offers.

This sort of program seems ideal for someone who has no preference for where they live and wants to try a new scene. If it sounds like something that interests you, why not check it out at You can also sign up for their mailing list to receive new offers in your inbox.

What are you waiting for? Get a move on.
