Big Bend National Park is located in the far south west area of Texas. It borders Mexico's Coahuila and Chihuahua areas. If you are able to make the road trip to the area, it is worth it. A few go for the chance to cross the border near Boquillas and spend the day in Mexico, but our goal was to find some fun hikes and hot springs!
Hike and Hot Spring in Big Bend National Park
From what we found, to make the best day in Big Bend National Park check out the following.
Grapevine Hills TrailThis trail is easy and has a fun destination. At only 2.2 miles round trip it is great for everyone. After walking through tall rock ridges, you will come to Balancing Rock. It is pretty incredible that it just sits like that. Almost stuck resting on another rock. I was actually a little nervous standing underneath it!
Boquillas Hot Springs
Boquillas Hot Springs is an awesome spot. A very short hike along Hot Springs Historic Trail and the Rio Grande, anyone can make it. However, the largest vehicle that can get you to the parking lot is a Chevy 1500. Dually's or large vehicles will not make the narrow road.
Just before the hot springs are abandoned buildings from the old J.O. Langford bath house community.
We had the best day doing these two activities. We didn't have much time so one of the longer hikes or the border crossing wasn't an option. These two options provided a great introduction to the national park and we can't wait to get back to explore more. So with just a day and the need to not drive a lot or be strenuous, Grapevine Hills Trail and Boquillas hot springs are your best options!
