We are always searching for hikes. In Colorado, the biggest attraction is bagging a 14er, or all 58 of them. But what about other hikes that are easier to access? Right in the city of Boulder, Colorado is Royal Arch. This beautiful arch sits at 6,915' with a view as far as the eye can see.
Hike to Royal Arch
This hike is 4 miles round trip with 1,417' in elevation gain. It will have you huffing and puffing, but it's worth it and you can take your time. It's kid friendly and dog friendly, but remember to keep your dogs on a leash.
It starts out as a lovely hike on a board walk through the trees, but it quickly becomes a constant upward climb.
If you are not used to the elevation, make sure to bring plenty of water and some snacks. Even though it's only 2 miles to the arch, you may start feeling a little altitude sickness. Whether it be tightening muscles, headache or dizziness, make sure to have something to combat that. Especially on a hot day.
But as mentioned, it is only 2 miles to Royal Arch.
It's pretty amazing that this is right near downtown, with an easy drive to get to. Take a minute to take in the fresh air and the views of the nearby area.
With it being so close to town it is busy, but we didn't have a problem with finding space to relax for a minute before having to hike back down. Parking was a slight issue, but if you get there early enough you will find a spot in the parking lot or in the neighborhood.
